Buffalo Bill!  That name has thrilled the hearts of boys and girls for over a hundred years.  Bill Cody-bull whacker, Indian fighter, army scout, buffalo hunter and showman.  He got his education on the wild plains of the West and then took the spirit of the West to the rest of the world in his Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show.

In Buffalo Bill and the Overland Trail, Bill’s early days are portrayed, partly through the eyes of his friend, David Scott.  The book opens with the true story of how teenaged  Bill, along with two companions fought off an Indian attack from behind a breastwork of dead mules.  The tale continues with accounts of crossing the plains in ox-drawn wagons, more Indian battles, gold mining and life-threatening hazards of storms, starvation and waterless deserts.

Here is a true story that will stir the imagination and quicken the heartbeat of boys and girls of all ages.

Recommended for ages 10 and up
